Clifton ISD TEKS Con Attendees

Clifton ISD teachers along with the district's Curriculum Director, Tiffany Jones, recharged their summer break by attending the TEKS Conference in San Antonio the week of July 8th. Clifton Elementary was represented by 8 teachers including Math Interventionist Lynda Buckingham, Second Grade Teachers Kaitlyn Pierce and Susan Taylor, Fourth Grade Teachers Elizabeth Allen, Mandy Florence and Kara Trigg, and Fifth Grade Teachers Cody Isaacs and Kara Ripley. Clifton Middle and Clifton High Schools had 11 teachers together covering all core content areas and special education including: Delanie Atkinson, Erin Baker, Howard Bennette, Colleen Chaffin, Courtney Chasteen, Joe DeBorde, Sarah DeBorde, Josh Houser, Kellie Mathis, Michele Sparkman, and Jason Williams.

The district utilized a portion of Title II, Part A grant funds which provide supplemental federal funds to increase student achievement consistent with the challenging State academic standards (TEKS); improve the quality and effectiveness of teachers, principals, and other school leaders; increase the number of effective teachers, principals, and other school leaders who are effective in improving student academic achievement in schools; and provide low-income and minority students greater access to effective teachers, principals, and other school leaders.  The intent of the funding is to support educators in their work to improve the overall quality of instruction and ensure equity of educational opportunity for all students. Teachers expressed interest back in March, were selected in early-May for this opportunity and will support on campus training and implementation of updates at fall teacher in-service.

TEKSCon brings hundreds of Texas educators together for three days of collaboration, innovation and learning.  The annual conference showcased national guest speakers,  informative sessions and hands-on workshops.  Texas teachers and administrators learn best practices, discover new ways to spark change and enhance curriculum from other Texas educators.

The 2024 Keynote Speaker, Hal Bowman and his message to Teach Like A Rockstar kicked off the Conference by providing educators with the most powerful tools, strategies, and resources available for creating an extraordinary learning environment – one where teachers have a profound educational and personal impact on the lives of students. His empowering, engaging, and entertaining workshop helps teachers discover the keys that drive all students to perform at their very highest levels. #TeamCISD laughed, cried, and related to his message and empowerment to gear up for the next school year.
